Tamar Zinn

Artist Statement:

My paintings and drawings are abstractions intended to evoke sensations, rather than describing a particular place or time. While suggestive of the natural world, my imagery is invented and informed by past experiences that are interpreted, misinterpreted, and reinvented. I aim to offer visual experiences that feel simultaneously familiar while being otherworldly. All is transformed by the passage of time and shaped by my vocabulary of mark-making and color.  Light, atmospheric ambiguity, and movement are the touchstones that invigorate my work. They convey my preoccupation with the notion of liminality – the sense that all is transitory. The challenge is to communicate a perpetual state of being ‘in-between’ while making something that is concrete and unchanging.  Tamar Zinn, 2025
