Artist Statement:

I’m fascinated by glimpses into others’ lives, intrigued by what is revealed or hidden. Growing up, I frequently rode the L train in Chicago, where it runs mere feet from tenement buildings. Fleeting glances into households that looked quite different than my own had an immense impact on me. The act of bringing something into view agitates the mind as it tries to grasp the content of what is being revealed. My interest in this remains, only now I want the viewer to be curious and drawn in close. I begin each new painting with improvisational doodles, looking for forms that have scale and heft and an overall structure that resonates emotionally. Much like my use of lace, the forms are suggestive of the feminine while refusing figuration and are a way of creating content in otherwise abstract paintings.
