Jacob Cartwright
Artist Statement:
I’m interested in the way that painting can convey presence through a sense of visual intelligence. My recent paintings take a constructive approach to creating color space—systemic patterning is used as a way of organizing, distributing, and combining color proportionately. The paintings represent a search for a rigorous and essentialized form of lyricism.
Artist Biography:
Jacob Cartwright was born in Mount Vernon, Illinois in 1977. He has been exhibiting his work nationally and internationally for the last 25 years, recent group shows include features in Paris, France and Athens, Greece. Alongside his studio practice he maintains an active interest in writing and curating, with an overall focus on non-objective art. He studied painting at the Kansas City Art Institute where he earned a BFA.
